A Living Witness
I am currently working at a nursing home, and it has been a blessing so far. The work is challenging at times, but I prayed while applying for jobs that God would place me where I can best serve Him. I firmly believe that God places in a specific place for a specific reason, even though we might have to wait til heaven to find out what that reason is. I have already bonded with a lot of the residents, and seeing their faces light up when they see me fills my heart with so much joy. I have also had the privilege of talking with some of the staff though. Even though the nursing home is Adventist, a lot of the staff are not. Yesterday during lunch break I was talking to a Mongolian lady who works with me. We talked about values and religion, and she told me something that really touched my heart. She told me that even though she is not Christian(Buddhist background), she truly appreciates how Adventists try to preserve their minds by not watching violent movies or bad books, that we don't drink and smoke, and that family values are important to us. She went on to say that Mongolia needs more Adventists and that I should go there as a missionary! She also told me that religion lived out makes a huge difference.
Oh how this conversation humbled me because I see how often I don't live out my faith the way I should. We are a testimony to the world whether we want to be or not. Our words and actions either testify that we walk with Jesus or show that we are conformed to the world. What a great privilege, but also what a greatt responsibility. It is my prayer that I will live out my life in such a way that people see Jesus in me. Time is short, and we have a duty to fulfill. If we truly love Jesus it will be our burden to share His love. People are starving for truth. Why should we hide our candles while others are groping around in darkness? "Let your light so shine that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
