Meaning...

Meaning.
What gives life meaning? What gives it a purpose and makes it worth living?
Working at the nursing home has given me a glimpse of what "meaning" looks like.
Singing lullabys and giving goodnight kisses just because I care. Listening to loosely associated stories as though they were the most important stories I had ever heard. Going on wheelchair walks and really taking the time to drink in the scents and to enjoy the music of nature. Just being there, smiles, and many hugs.
Meaning.
Praying with residents who used to pastor churches. Going the extra mile and treating every person with uttermost dignity. All these little things make life meaningful. Not just to me, but also to those around me.
Meaning.
A personal relationship with my Savior. Being able to share my faith, and showing God's love to those around me. So often we search for a meaning in life, but unfortunately in the wrong places. It is the little things in life that make the sum of life's happiness. "Meaning" comes by living s life of service. By making God first, best, and last and loving my neighbor  with all my being.

Great Things

Let's be honest. I don't think there is anybody that does not desire to accomplish great things. A lot of us want to impact the world in mighty ways; yes we want to bring about change that is noticeable. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do great things, but I do believe that we don't fully understand what is "great" in God's eyes. Working at the nursing home has taught me that some of the greatest things in life are little things in the world's eyes. The world does not consider holding a dejected man's hand, or looking at a picture book with a 95 year old woman as "great" things, but I can assure you that it means a great deal to the individual. A cheerful smile, an extra measure of patience, and the willingness to serve regardless of gain are great things my friend. Too often we sit around waiting for some great opportunity to work for God, missing opportunities to do little things that have great effects. Let us not miss opportunities...

May The Year 2016 Be Different

A new year has begun Lord, and I want this year to be the best one I have had yet. I am not asking for earthly wealth, and am not seeking ease, but Lord I pray that this year will be different. May this year be the year that I draw closer to You than I have ever before. May this be the year where I learn to trust You with every aspect of my life. May this year be the year where I reach more souls, and touch more lives.  Lord, I have learned from personal experience that I can do NOTHING in my own strength. All my righteousness is as filthy rags, but I also KNOW that YOU can and long to cover me with YOUR righteousness.  Lord, I know that Your ways are so much higher than my own, and it is my prayer that I may trust Your more this year than I have ever before. True Peace

"It is the love of self that destroys our peace. We shall be deaf to reproach, and blind to scorn and insult." -The Signs of the Times (December 27, 1905) What a powerful quote, and oh what great implications it has for our lives. It took being in a relationship to show me just how much I love "self". When self sits on the throne, life is a chaotic mess because you spend all your time and energy trying to keep "self" from being hurt or slighted. Every little hurtful word is enough for your whole kingdom to crumble. Oh what a sad life to live!
