Meaning...

Meaning. What gives life meaning? What gives it a purpose and makes it worth living? Working at the nursing home has given me a glimpse of what "meaning" looks like. Singing lullabys and giving goodnight kisses just because I care. Listening to loosely associated stories as though they were the most important stories I had ever heard. Going on wheelchair walks and really taking the time to drink in the scents and to enjoy the music of nature. Just being there, smiles, and many hugs. Meaning. Praying with residents who used to pastor churches. Going the extra mile and treating every person with uttermost dignity. All these little things make life meaningful. Not just to me, but also to those around me. Meaning. A personal relationship with my Savior. Being able to share my faith, and showing God's love to those around me. So often we search for a meaning in life, but unfortunately in the wrong places. It is the little things in life that make the sum of life's h...

A Living Witness

I am currently working at a nursing home, and it has been a blessing so far. The work is challenging at times, but I prayed while applying for jobs that God would place me where I can best serve Him. I firmly believe that God places in a specific place for a specific reason, even though we might have to wait til heaven to find out what that reason is. I have already bonded with a lot of the residents, and seeing their faces light up when they see me fills my heart with so much joy. I have also had the privilege of talking with some of the staff though. Even though the nursing home is Adventist, a lot of the staff are not. Yesterday during lunch break I was talking to a Mongolian lady who works with me. We talked about values and religion, and she told me something that really touched my heart. She told me that even though she is not Christian(Buddhist background), she truly appreciates how Adventists try to preserve their minds by not watching violent movies or bad books, that we don...

From the pen of a child

I was leafing through some of my old notebooks when I found and entry from when I was 11 1/2 years old. It was originally written in German, but I translated it as accurately as I could. This is the evidence that even a child can be touched by the love of Jesus. It is never too early to have serious thoughts, and even a young child can grasp important truths. "Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass." Psalm 37:5 •"You care about me and give me that which I need." •"You always answer my prayer as you see fit." •"I can rely upon You completely, because I know that You take care of me. " Oh that I may never lose this childlike faith. May I still ever rely upon the One who cares for me. May I ever claim my Savior's promises.  More of Jesus, and way less of me.
