Trust is of Vital Importance
Trust is essential if a relationship is to be healthy and happy. Where there is no trust, there is also no growth. We know how true this is for human relationships, but sometimes it is easy to forget how applicable this is to our relationship with Jesus.
Do we truly trust Him, or do we merely profess to? Actions speak louder than words. It is one thing to claim to trust somebody, and quite another thing to show that we trust them. Too often we want to control the outcomes. I know for myself that I sometimes fail to trust Jesus 100%, While I may claim to rely fully on Him, my actions often belie my words. I want Jesus to lead, and yet so often I am afraid to let go because things may turn out other than expected. Oh how sad! Jesus has never let us down. There is no safer place for our hopes and aspirations than in His strong hand. Though He may lead us in paths we never imagined, we would not choose to be led otherwise if we could see the end from the beginning.
"Many who profess to be Christ's followers have an anxious, troubled heart because they are afraid to trust themselves with God. They do not make a complete surrender to Him, for they shrink from the consequences that such a surrender may involve. Unless they do make this surrender they cannot find peace." -Ministry of Healing
How sad to think that so many of us are anxious and have troubled hearts merely because we are afraid to trust ourselves with God. I can only imagine how painful it must be for the Father to see His children suffering needless anxiety. He longs to be our Rock, and our Foundation. It is my most earnest prayer that we don't let doubt and fear to stunt our spiritual growth. May our relationship with Jesus be one of trust, and child-like faith.
May we learn to "trust in the Lord with all our heart, and to not lean on our understanding." For when we "acknowledge Him in all our ways", He truly will "direct our paths."
