Just Keep Going
"...and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Hebrews 12:1
I really enjoy running. The crisp morning air, the singing of birds, and the stillness have a way of putting a smile on my face. It is a perfect way to de-stress, or to get energized.
Well, those who know me might know that once I start running(or hiking) I just want to keep going as long as I possibly can. This morning was one of those days. I was going to go for a short run, but alas it was not to be that way. :) I kept telling myself that I would just go a little farther before turning around. Well, I finally reached a point where I decided to turn around, but that is when I realized that I was getting tired. My feet suddenly seemed to be a lot heavier, and the way seemed farther than ever. I set my pace though, and started running, but I began to get more and more tempted to just quit and walk. I did stop to rest a moment a few times, but every time I was even less inclined to keep running. That is when I saw the cliff with a statue of Jesus on it. This cliff is very close to my grandmother's house(where I was staying), and as long as I kept my eyes fixed on it, the way did not seem too bad anymore. With my eyes fixed on the goal, I was able to persevere. Oh what a powerful object lesson.
If we focus on the length, and difficulty of the Christian walk(run), or if we dwell on all the obstacles that come our way, there is great danger that we will despair and give up. Oh that we may ever keep our eyes focused on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. He will give us the strength to persevere. We may not feel as though we will make it, but God will give us the strength for just one more step, and another, and another...Keep your eyes on Jesus my friends. The prize is worth the run!
